Schmidt launches first fully electric sweeper

Premiere of eSwingo 200+ at IFAT 2018

Not only does the eSwingo 200+ clean up perfectly, but it is also clean itself. The new compact sweeper from Schmidt operates entirely on electric power without generating any emissions,  making it not just one of the cleanest compact sweepers available on the market but also one of the most cost-competitive. Over its life cycle, the costs of the eSwingo 200+ are on par with those of the diesel version, thanks to lower energy and maintenance costs and a longer amortisation period. So, not only does the eSwingo 200+ benefit the environment, it also benefits the bottom line. The ASH Group has developed the Generation E concept to offer both municipal authorities and private service providers not only sustainable cutting-edge technology, but also an inclusive package covering all the service, maintenance and performance needs of the new all-electric model. Examples include a compatible charging station with a monitoring function; a GPS-based telematics solution to boost performance and optimise route planning; and expert advice on all aspects of infrastructure, energy demand, maintenance concepts and fleet set-up. Customers don’t need to worry about battery life as all battery servicing and diagnostics are provided by the ASH Group, while any used batteries can be returned and recycled free of charge. The new eSwingo 200+ will make its first public appearance from 14 – 18 May 2018 at the IFAT trade fair in Munich on the ASH Group stand in the open-air section 709/15.

A great feel for sweeping – proven technology that is simpler and cleaner than ever before

Besides the diesel version of the Swingo 200+, which will be newly available from the autumn of 2018 with a Euro6C engine, Schmidt is now launching “Generation E” and heralding the dawn of a new era in sweeping technology with the eSwingo 200+. Both the drive and the sweeping unit are propelled entirely by electric power, thanks to a powerful rechargeable battery with a capacity of 75 kWh that delivers a class-leading performance of up to 10 hours without recharging. With the excellent sweeping power synonymous with the Swingo 200+, but with a near-silent   electric drive, the new e-Swingo deliver ”noiseless, invisible sweeping”.

“Our requirements when it came to developing our new electric sweeper were clearly defined,” says Tobias Weissenrieder, Sweeping & Agriculture Manager at ASH Group. “The suction power and the volume of the hopper are the same as that of the diesel model, and customers should be able to complete a full shift, working for up to 10 hours, with this machine. There was never any question of us making compromises. The eSwingo 200+ combines efficiency and sustainability in a unique way. With the renewable generation of power, each machine automatically produces zero rather than 123 tonnes of CO2 emissions, which are inevitably produced by a standard diesel-powered machine. With the eSwingo 200+, savings of up to 85% of the energy costs and up to 70% of the maintenance costs can be achieved, and customers also benefit from the machine having a longer life cycle compared to a diesel model. Looking at the overall costs of ownership, the new eSwingo 200+ is no more expensive to operate than the existing diesel Swingo 200+. This is a result that makes us proud and also spurs us on to continue to expand the Generation E range. If you want to shape the future, you can’t just wait for tomorrow to do so.”

Generation E – A new future-proof solution that really cleans up

“Controlling air pollution and reducing noise are becoming more and more important to our customers,” says Barend Fruithof, CEO of the ASH Group. “The European Union has also set itself the target of reducing CO2 emissions by 2050 by 80% from 1990. This demands a rethink within society – and new thinking from companies such as Aebi Schmidt. This is because for us and our customers sustainability also means being fit for the future. The electrical implement carrier Aebi EC and the eSwingo 200+ represent milestones from which we will consistently look to expand our range of alternative drive concepts.

For users, electric mobility often demands changes to operating processes and infrastructure, as well as long-term planning and major investments. Fruithof says: “Generation E therefore represents an integrated concept: superior technology, maximum comfort and a customised business model. We want to be a full-service provider. And as such we take care of a large share of our customers’ tasks for them. The customer benefits from optimised processes and saves resources.”

High tech features deliver optimum performance

Two battery packs  guarantee not only the best performance, but also efficient handling. The battery capacity is 75 kWh. When a shift comes to an end, an on-board rapid charger quickly recharges the battery in just two hours. The highest quality of materials and workmanship guarantee the durability (at least 5000 charging cycles) and safety of the batteries (non-flammable, completely explosion-proof). The Schmidt eSwingo 200+ is particularly quiet, with the noise level being a great deal lower than the noise produced by the diesel vehicle. This benefits not only the drivers directly, but also local residents. Given it’s low noise level, if the machine can be deployed at night or in the early hours of the morning. The top speed is 50 km/h (31mph). Using just one electric motor fitted directly on the rear axle, means more performance coupled with less outlay on maintenance compared with other systems.

Experienced Swingo drivers appreciate the ease of manoeuvrability thanks to the all-wheel steering, which is also fitted in the eSwingo 200+ . The weight distribution between the front and rear axles is also very well thought out thanks to the intelligent battery distribution, and this guarantees excellent driving stability. the eSwingo 200+ holds a water tank with a volume of 380l, and the 2m3 hopper for sweepings is exactly the same size as the one in the diesel model. What is unique is that the tried-and-tested pressurised water recirculation system can also be combined with the innovative Koanda air circulation system. This reduces emissions by up to 70% and helps make the eSwingo 200+ possibly the cleanest compact sweeper available in the market To start with, a large proportion of the dust-laden air which is sucked in is re-circulated to the suction nozzle in a closed cycle, while the special design of the  nozzle, which employs flow energy to support the collection of debris, guarantees a substantial improvement in debris collection.

Meanwhile, the small amount of residual air that remains is purified through fine-pored filters, which means the eSwingo sweeps with almost no particulate emissions and offers ultra-clean sweeping.

To use the machine with a manual water hose, a high-pressure water pump delivering 150 bar / 15 litres is available as an option. Drivers are guaranteed to enjoy driving the vehicle even on long deployments, thanks to the ergonomically adapted operating elements, a height-adjustable and articulating steering column, and intuitive control using a joystick. The fully integrated air-conditioning and heating system with the option to precondition the cabin ensures you can work in pleasant temperatures at any time of the year.

Smart and intelligent, the new Schmidt eSwingo 200+ also provides a new generation of telematics solutions. These give GPS-based positioning in real time, allow for optimised driving and battery performance, automatically track service intervals and can also be used for route optimisation.
